DCCA presents “A
Taste of Wine & Jazz XXI”
Darke County Center for the Arts will host “A Taste of Wine and Jazz
XXI” on Friday, April 29 at Montage Cafe in downtown Greenville.
The wine tasting party, a fundraiser for the local arts organization,
will feature food and music in addition to a selection of fine wines.
Music for the event will be provided by the Eddie Brookshire
Quintet. According to DCCA Artistic Director Keith Rawlins, this
band will appeal to a broad range of listeners. “These guys are
quite simply great musicians,” Rawlins stated. “They are high
energy, but easy listening, jazzy, yet melodic. Everybody will
enjoy their music, as well as the great food and welcoming atmosphere
at Montage,” Rawlins concluded.
Eddie Brookshire plays bass, and has performed with various jazz
masters including Cal Collins, Snookie Young, and David “Fathead”
Newman. Trumpeter Gary Onady studied at University of
Cincinnati’s Conservatory of Music and performed with jazz artists
including Louis Bellson, then went on to pursue a career in medicine
before returning to his roots as a musician.
Jack Novotny played saxophone, flute, and bass clarinet with various
groups on the East Coast, in his home town of Cleveland, and for an
extended gig at Carli’s Contemporary Cafe in San Juan, Puerto Rico
before arriving in Dayton in 2008. Drummer Fenton Sparks has long
been involved with musical groups in the Cincinnati, Dayton, and
Columbus region, winning various awards as an outstanding
percussionist. Keigo Hirakawa, keyboardist for the group, also
leads his own piano trio and has won acclaim for the spontaneity he
brings to performances.
Kent and Melinda Myers, R. B. Cox Insurance Agency, and Zechar Bailey
Funeral Home are sponsoring the musical performance by the Eddie
Brookshire Quintet. Montage proprietors Aaron and Michelle Cox
will provide an enticing array of hors d’oeuvres to complement the
wines they have selected for the event. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.;
“A Taste of Wine and Jazz XXI” closes with the awarding of door prizes
at 8:30 p.m.
This event is sold out. Contact DCCA at 937-547-0908 or dcca@centerforarts.net
