First
United Methodist Church...
Service
of the Longest Night
Tuesday, December 20th, 7:00
P.M.
Special Service at First United
Methodist Church, 202 W. 4th St., Greenville
December
14, 2011
It’s
the most wonderful time of the
year!
Or,
is it?
Certainly
not to some, including:
Anyone
who will be observing the
holidays without a special loved one,
Those who are struggling with
finances, including the loss of a job.
Those who may suffer with depression
for any reason.
If
you are struggling during this
Christmas season, you are invited to attend this special, quiet,
service of
Christmas.
This
service is so-called because it
is always held on or near the winter solstice – the longest night of
the year,
and is for those who feel as if the night could not be any longer.
On
this night we will hear words of
comfort and hope from the Scriptures, spend time in prayer and
remembering. There
will be a brief
message and some carols that will lead us in reflecting on the deepest
meaning
of God coming to us, as we are, in the baby Jesus.
The service will be followed by a time of
fellowship in the narthex.
This
is the sixth year that First
Church has held this service.
Many have
found this to be their special time with God, and a reminder that
nothing can
separate us from the love of Jesus.
All
are welcome and encouraged to attend.
