Mehaffie to Speak on Edison Presidential
Search
GREENVILLE – Darryl Mehaffie, Edison Community College Trustee, will be
speaking to the Darke County Republican Men’s Club Saturday, Feb. 19,
at 8 a.m. He will be talking about the search process for the college’s
next president, who will likely be named in the near future.
The meeting will be held in the Brethren Retirement Community staff
cafeteria. This is a change of location to allow for the growing number
of attendees to the club’s monthly meetings. Anyone not knowing the
cafeteria’s location can get directions at the main entrance desk.
The search for a new president began last August following the
announcement by Pres. Dr. Kenneth A. Yowell that he would retire on
April 1 this year. Yowell has served as Edison’s chief executive since
1988.
Mehaffie has served on the Edison Board of Trustees since 1999 and was
its chairman from 2004 to 2006. He is currently chairman of the Ohio
Association of Community Colleges.
He also serves on the Community College Association’s Executive and
Legislative Committees and is State Senator Keith Faber’s (R-12)
Education Chairman. Involved in the political process since the 1970’s,
he has worked with U.S. Representatives Tom Kindness and Donald “Buz”
Lukins, and current House Speaker John Boehner. He serves on the State
Republican Central and Executive Committees, 5th Senate District, for
Darke, Miami and Montgomery Counties.
Mehaffie is also involved in the local community, serving or having
served on the boards of Darke County Center for the Arts, Darke County
Agricultural Society, Darke County Fair Board, Darke County Historical
Society, Darke County Visitors Bureau, Garst Museum, Annie Oakley
Committee and more. He has received numerous honors for his education
service, including Teacher of the Year in 1996.
The Darke County Republican Men’s Club meets the third Saturday of
every month. Membership is open to all interested individuals and
guests are invited. A buffet breakfast for $6 is included.
