It’s July and that means the stage is set for Darke County to honor its
most-famous daughter, Annie Oakley!
Phoebe Ann Moses was not born in Oklahoma or anywhere in the “wild
west.” She was born in Darke County, Ohio, on August 13, 1860. Given
the stage name of “Annie Oakley” by Frank Butler, she went on to
proudly represent Darke County all across the world.

July 28 - 31. Annie Oakley Legendary Sidewalk Sales. The Annie Oakley
Festival actually began more than four decades ago with sidewalk sales
in lovely downtown Greenville. Today, folks line the sidewalks before
the sun comes up to be one of the first customers to get a free gift at
the KitchenAid Experience Center, as well as the bargain basement
prices. Many of the downtown merchants fill their sidewalks with great
bargains. While downtown, be sure to stop by one of the eateries. You
will find everything from ethnic foods to gourmet to home cooked

The doors of KitchenAid Experience Center will open at 8:00 am on
Thursday July 28... but the line-up will begin much earlier. Why, you
ask? ‘Door buster’ gifts will be available for the first 200 adult
customers each day, with a different gift each day.

Due to the volume of customers this weekend, the cooking classes will
not be offered on Thursday and Friday, however special treats will be
available on Saturday at 12:30. The KitchenAid food processor will be
highlighted with the making of ‘Fairy Cakes’ by Cindy Spoon. For more

July 29 - 31. Annie Oakley Festival. To honor Darke County most famous
daughter’s accomplishments and to celebrate her life, the Annie Oakley
Days Festival which began 47 years ago takes place in Greenville, Ohio.
Visitors and locals alike enjoy shooting contests, fast draw
competitions, melodramas, historical tours, a pilgrimage to Annie’s
grave, special displays at Garst Museum, parade at 10 am on Saturday,
antique market and concessions.
This year’s Annie Oakley Western Arts Showcase will feature a World
Record Day on Saturday, July 30. Three western artists will attempt to
set new world records in bullwhip arts and knife throwing for the
Guinness Book.
This year’s melodrama will take place on Thursday and Friday at 7:00
pm. All performances are held inside the Youth Building at the Darke

July 30 - 31. Gathering at Garst. This new event will take place on the
commons of Garst Museum in the Greenville City Park, and will feature
antiques, artists, fine food, farmers market, gardening exhibitors,
skilled heritage craftsman, and primitive folk artists as well as other
curiosities! Live entertainment will fill the weekend with roving
period re-enactors, storytellers, strolling musicians, and other
entertaining curiosities. ‘Pickin’ on the Porch,’ a signature artists
series will take place on the porch of the Lowell Thomas House. A
talented group of singer/songwriters will present their acoustic
performances in the round. Public admission to The Gathering at Garst
is free. Regular admission prices to tour the museum apply. All
proceeds will benefit the Garst Museum.
Event hours will be from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday, July 30 and
from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday, July 31. Vendor set up will be on
Friday, July 29 from 12:00 to 8:00 pm
