Darke County Visitors Bureau

With summer officially here and the kids out of school, parents are hearing, “I’m bored! There’s nothing to do!” Help is here!

The month of June is full of activities for the entire family. Read on to learn about unique events taking place in and around Darke County, Ohio. June 3: First Fridays! Summer 2011 just got hotter! Downtown Greenville is open late on the First Friday in June, July and August. This means activities, demonstrations, food and music can all be enjoyed in an historic downtown setting late at night. Each First Friday will also feature the free, family-friendly, outdoor movie series, Flicks on 5th. For more information about First Fridays and Flicks on 5th, visit www.DowntownGreenville.org. Downtown Greenville is the place to be on the First Fridays!

June 3 - 5: Country Concert Jamboree. Enjoy car show, rides, flea market, games and concert. Artists include Kings Landing, Rocket Club, Country Mile, Brittney Jones and more. Contact

June 4 & 5: Living History Encampment. The 1st Louisiana Zouaves / 2nd Ky Cavalry, Artillery Detachment will present a living history encampment on a day in the life of a civil war camp. Located near the Log House at Shawnee Prairie Preserve, they will have demonstrations of Civil War-era weapons, flags, clothing and cooking. June 8: Prelude to The DREAM. Join Eldora Speedway owner and NASCAR Nextel Cup champion Tony Stewart and his NASCAR brethren for this mid-week Late Model spectacular. www.eldoraspeedway.com for details.

June 10 - 12: 60th Annual Versailles Poultry Days. This year’s theme is Chick-A-Ritaville and the event will be filled with activities, attractions, and events for people of all ages to enjoy. The entertainment tent will be rocking all weekend with Renegade, Free Lance, Higgins & Madewell, Reaganomics, 2x2 Unplugged and Karma’s Pawn. June 11: Little Sure Shot Gala. Celebrate the life and times of Darke County’s famous daughter, Annie Oakley with a tour of Garst Museum, live & silent auctions as well as a raffle and appetizers. June 18: Bradford Railroad Festival. Enjoy this small town festival featuring railroad history. The BF Tower, Railroad Museum, Library and Community Club will be open to the public. Contact Cherie Roeth at (937) 526-5559 for details.

June 19: Father’s Day Spectacular Classic Car Show & Swap Meet. This classic car show held at the Darke County Fairgrounds in Greenville features many restored and classic cars. Live DJ will spin 50’s and 60’s music. Contact Dave Niley at (937) 548-4517 for details.

Saturdays in June - Free Tour of Pioneer Log House at Shawnee Prairie. Bring the whole family back to the early 1800’s and visit with our period-dressed volunteers as they explain their way of life while going about day-to-day chores. Log House is located behind the Nature Center at Shawnee Prairie. House is open from 1 to 4 pm.
