DCCA presents Blues
Artist Austin “Walkin Cane”
Singer-guitarist Austin “Walkin’ Cane” will sing and play the blues at
The Bistro Off Broadway on Thursday, March 31 at 7 p.m. The show
is part of Darke County Center for the Arts Coffeehouse Series,
which offers concerts in a casual social setting where patrons can
enjoy food and drink while being entertained by high quality
professional performing artists.
According to Keith Rawlins, Artistic Director for DCCA, Austin “Walkin’
Cane” Charanghut has earned numerous awards for his music, including
being invited to participate in the 2009 International Blues Festival
in Memphis, Tennessee. “He’s an old-time bluesman who can really
sing; Austin plays original and classic Delta blues with such
soul and skill that you feel like you must be at a club in New Orleans,
” Rawlins said.
While in high school, Austin “Walkin’ Cane” spent a lot of time
perfecting his craft due to the effects of a congenital malformation of
the blood vessels which made it necessary for the young man to walk
with a cane, and also explains the genesis of the singer’s
nickname. Sidelined from many teen-age activities, the budding
artist played his guitar for hours day after day. “I started
getting good. Practicing all day you can’t help it,”
Charanghut explains.
DCCA’s Coffeehouse Series is sponsored by Steve and Eileen
Litchfield, Tom and Julie Graber, and Rodney Oda; DCCA also receives
funding from Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial, Lydia E. Schaurer
Memorial Trust Fund, and Ketrow Foundation. In addition, the Ohio
Arts Council helps fund Darke County Center for the Arts with state tax
dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence, and
cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
Tickets for the Austin “Walkin’ Cane” show are $10, and can be reserved
by contacting DCCA at 937-547-0908 or dcca@centerforarts.net.
Tickets will also be available at the door. If you plan to
enjoy a meal prior to the performance, advance dinner reservations are
