Attorneys to be Admitted to the
Bar During Ceremonies at Ohio Theatre Monday, Nov. 7

Close
to 900 new attorneys will be
sworn in Monday, Nov. 7, during two special public sessions of the
Supreme
Court of Ohio at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the historic Ohio Theatre, 39
E.
State St.
Law
school graduates of Capital
University, University of Cincinnati, University of Dayton, Northern
Kentucky
University and The Ohio State University will take the oath at the
10:30 a.m.
session while law school graduates of University of Akron, Case Western
Reserve
University, Cleveland State University, Ohio Northern University,
University of
Toledo and out-of-state schools will do the same at the 2 p.m. session.
Supreme
Court Justice Judith Ann
Lanzinger will serve as the keynote speaker at both ceremonies, and
Justice
Evelyn Lundberg Stratton will lead the new attorneys in the
professional oath.
The
oath of office sessions will be
streamed live on the Internet on the Supreme Court’s Web site
(www.sc.ohio.gov)
as well as the Ohio Channel (www.ohiochannel.org). In addition, the
sessions
will be broadcast back-to-back statewide on the Ohio Channel’s local
public broadcasting
stations at 2 and 10 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on
Sunday,
Nov. 20, at noon and 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, at 6 a.m. on Tuesday,
Nov. 15,
at 3 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, and at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29.
Additionally,
the morning ceremony will air at 3:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov.
24, and
at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 25. The afternoon ceremony can be seen at
3:30 and
11:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, and at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26.
The
attorneys being sworn in passed
the July 2011 bar examination and satisfied all of the Supreme Court’s
other
requirements for admission. Out of the 1,176 applicants who sat for the
exam,
959 (81.6 percent) received passing scores; out of 1,080 first-time
applicants,
86.1 percent received passing scores.
Following
the ceremony, new attorneys may
visit the Ohio Judicial Center, including the Supreme Court Courtroom
and the
Law Library. In addition, staff from the Office of Attorney Services
will be
available at the south end of the Grand Concourse to help new attorneys
register. Additionally, for the first time, the Ohio State Bar
Association will
host its reception for new admittees in the Ohio Judicial Center at the
north
end of the Grand Concourse.
