Darke
County Center for the Arts...
DCCA
‘Arts in Education’ opener
addresses bullying
September 9, 2011
Musical
performing artist Lyle Cogen
will present her one-woman show Sticks and Stones for fourth through
sixth
grade students in all Darke County and Greenville City public schools
from
September 19 through 23. The first Arts In Education presentation of
the school
year for Darke County Center for the Arts, this award-winning program
creatively addresses the pervasive problem of bullying.
The performances are free and open to the
public.
According
to DCCA Artistic Director
Keith Rawlins, DCCA first presented Sticks and Stones last year for
local
kindergarten through third grade students.
“Following Lyle’s show, DCCA was immediately
beset by requests from
teachers and administrators to bring her back,” Rawlins explained.
“Lyle
effectively deals with meeting the challenges kids face daily not only
on the
school bus, in the cafeteria and on the playground, but also at their
home
through technology and social networking, and she does it in an
entertaining
and quite moving fashion,” the DCCA spokesperson concluded.
DCCA’s
Arts In Education programs
which annually take professional performing artists into each grade
level of
all local public schools are sponsored by Dayton Power and Light
Company
Foundation, Greenville Federal, Maid-Rite Sandwich Shoppe, and Vectren
Foundation. Additionally, A.I.E. receives funding from the Bocholt
Foundation,
Ketrow Foundation and Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund as well as
the
schools. The Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial provides operating
support
to Darke County Center for the Arts, which also receives funds from
Ohio Arts
Council, the state agency that supports public programs in the arts.
Specific
dates and times for Lyle Cogen’s
Sticks and Stones are coordinated with schools’ schedules; for more
