The Veterans of Foreign Wars have been distributing “Buddy” Poppies
since 1922. The proceeds from the “Buddy” Poppy Campaign are used
exclusively to assist disabled and needy veterans and the widows and
children of deceased veterans.
Disabled and needy veterans make the poppies and receive monetary help
for assembling them.
Thousands of men are bedridden for life and others spend the rest of
their days in wheelchairs or on crutches as a result of war injuries.
A grateful country has provided hospitalization where needed, but no
governmental action can provide a personal touch and individual
understanding. Proceeds from the “Buddy” Poppy are used to carry on a
program of assistance to lend that personal touch.
While the VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary raise most of its money from its
own members, the public is invited to help through the purchase of a
“Buddy” Poppy.
This year “Buddy” Poppy distribution in Greenville is scheduled for
September 16 and 17. When you see the “Buddy” Poppy volunteer remember
they are collecting money to aid those who have served.
