Art at The Mill

- A photographic journey exploring the remnants of our rapidly
disappearing past by John Bower will be featured in the gallery at
Bear’s Mill in celebration of National Historic Preservation Month.

Thrill of the Grill

First Fridays - Upper Floor Tour
May 4, 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Main Street Greenville will host a tour of the
upper floors of several buildings in downtown Greenville, as well as,
St. Clair Memorial Hall and the St. Clair Manor. Tickets to this event
are $5 and may be purchased at Bread of Life, or by contacting Main

Memorial Hall Centennnial
May 4, 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The Darke County Center for the Arts will
present an Evening of Legacy. Theatre goers will be entertained by
local artists and historical re-enactors, John and Karen Burkett.
Memorabilia, including programs with a similar design to those of 100
years ago, plus buttons of Henry and Ella St. Clair, will be on
display. Tours will be offered from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Tickets are $5

Spring Open House at Bear’s Mill
May 5, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Enjoy Spring at Bear’s Mill! This year’s
feature is ‘A Taste of the Mill.’ Sample the scrumptious gourmet
flavors found in the Mill Store, as well as offerings to make Mother’s
Day very special! Great Mother’s Day gift ideas include, unique home
and garden wares, women’s accessories and jewelry, and a fresh
selection of handmade pottery by the local potters. The Gallery at
Bear’s Mill will celebrate National Historic Preservation Month with
featured artist John Bower. Free, docent-lead tours will take place at

History Comes Alive at The Prairie
Saturdays, May 5 - 26, 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Log House at Shawnee
Prairie Preserve will be open to the public on Saturday afternoons
through May. Bring the whole family back to the early 1800’s and visit
with our period-dressed volunteers as they explain their way of life
while going about day-to-day chores. Help the Log House “owners” get
the house spruced up, explore the upstairs bedroom, help weed the
garden or maybe even try a bit of the day’s meal. If you are interested
in history, this is a great chance to see the Log House in action.

Afternoon Tea with The St. Clairs
May 5, 2:00 to 3:30 pm. In honor of the Memorial Hall Centennial
Celebration, the Fort Greene Ville Daughters of the American Revolution
will host an afternoon tea at St. Clair Manor. Henry and Ella St.
Clair, portrayed by John and Karen Burkett owners of the manor will
join in the festivities. Tickets are $10 each, and available at

Rolling 50’s Classic Car Show
May 12, 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Live DJ playing 50’s & 60’s music and car

Nature Day
May 26, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Grab your boots and get to Shawnee Prairie
to celebrate nature! The preserve will be a flutter of activity for all
ages, with educational stations scattered throughout the park, from the
wetlands to the woods, filled with information and activities for all
to enjoy. Children will receive a passport to explore each station and
have the “passport” stamped for a prize. There will also be scheduled,
naturalist-led hikes and programs throughout the day. Come out to

Discovering Our Hidden Gems
During the month of
May individuals can become a supporter of Bear’s Mill, Garst Museum and
Main Street Greenville, all in one donation.
This effort is to involve the community in “Discovering Our Hidden
Gems” during National Historic Preservation Month.
Pick up your “Discover Our Hidden Gems” brochure full of preservation
month activities at the Visitors Bureau located in The Palace in
downtown Greenville.
