BBBS and Agape Distribution Ctr to benefit from local event
The annual Charles Gillespie Memorial Poker Run and Hog Roast helps fund both programs

On August 18th the Gillespie family and friends will be hosting the eighth annual Charles Gillespie Memorial.  This event is a combination of Poker Run and Bike Rodeo along with a Hog Roast which is open to the public. The event which has drastically grown over the years had over 600 participants in 2012.  What started as a memorial for the late Charles Gillespie has now turned in to a cherished event for the family and one that they have utilized to give back to the local community. For the 2012 event the Gillespie family has selected Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County and the Agape Distribution Center as a recipients for the event.

The event is $15.00 entry per rider or $25.00 for a couple and includes your meal.   Open to the public is the Hog Roast to follow at 5:00 p.m. at the residence of Curt Hughes located at 5720 St. Rt. 47 in Houston Ohio. For only $7.00 a full meal will be served. Participants may sign up at the 47 Bar & Grill located in Port Jefferson from 11:30 – 1:00.  The first bike will go out at 12:30 and the last bike in will be at 5:00.  Camping will be available.  For more information on this event call 937-538-0535.  Linda Gillespie reports that the food will be abundant and the music will be provided by Bear Necessities.

Executive Director, Lisa Brown stated, “We were thrilled to be contacted by the Gillespie family as a recipient for this event”. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County is a non-profit United Way member, social service agency. Lisa Brown is Executive Director of the agency.  The program specializes in matching children facing adversity with adult volunteer Big Brothers and Sisters. These adults provide children with positive role modeling, as well as new educational and social activities. John Geissler of Agape Distribution Center stated, “Money from this event will help us to restock our food pantry due to the loss experienced in the most recent power outages throughout Shelby County”.  The Agape Distribution Center Agape Distribution serves the community is two distinct manners:

1.  The economically disadvantaged receive Bags of Hope through our full service, FREE Grocery Store (food pantry). There is never a cost or charge to those in need.

2.  The Non-Profit Agency Store is open to other non-profits providing products, goods and supplies to help fulfill their mission.

Geissler reports that the mission of Agape Distribution is to make it hard to go hungry in Shelby County.  For more information on Agape you can contact them at 937-498-4368.
