Pearl Harbor Day Dec. 7
Public invited to attend Vets Building Open House

This Friday, December 7th marks the 71st anniversary of the Japanese attack on the US Naval Base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.   More than 2,400 American were killed in the two hour bombing, 21 ships were sunk or damaged and more than 188 US aircrafts destroyed.

The Versailles VFW/American Legion veterans will hold an open house/memorial from 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm. at the Vets building (106 S Center) for the public to attend.  Opening Colors with the color guard under the command of Mike Barga begin at 8:00 pm, followed by an informational video of Pearl Harbor, which includes:  the last days of peace, eleven minutes of terror, battleship row, hell in the harbor, and the second wave.   There will be an “open discussion” lead by Dave Miller, followed by each military branch’s service anthem, “Trilogy”, “Salute to the Fallen” and concluding with “Taps”.

We must never forget that “December 7, 1941 a date that will live in infamy”, as proclaimed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, when the US officially entered into World War II.   For the freedom we enjoy today was not free, but paid for by the blood of our brothers, fathers, uncles, grandfathers as well as by the sacrifices of their mothers, wives, and children.  History must be preserved, respected, and remembered so our future generations may maintain and guard their freedom.

Children are welcome to attend.  Veterans and current military are encouraged to wear their uniforms, caps, medals to honor the military.  Those with stories are invited to share in the open discussion portion of the program.  Questions can be addressed by contacting Dave Miller at (937) 526-3836 or davem@pfpfoam.com.
