Bear’s Mill Announces New Event
“Soup ‘n Bowl” at Bears Mill on March 10
Evening enhanced by musician Brian Keith Wallen
Historic Bear’s Mill will host a unique fundraising event, “Soup ‘n’
Bowl,” on Saturday, March 10 from 5 till 9 p.m. “This new event
creatively unites the Mill’s heritage with the present,” said Mill
Retail Manager Julie Clark. “The Bear’s Mill potters are creating and
donating 164 bowls, one for each year of the Mill’s existence; each
ticket purchaser will get not only soup, bread, drink, and dessert, but
will also receive one of these handmade bowls,” Ms. Clark explained.
The evening will be enhanced by live music provided by singer,
songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Brian Keith Wallen, who last May
won the Cincy Blues Challenge, and who has performed at Dollywood and
the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The young artist says that he views
himself as a roots musician, drawing from folk, bluegrass, and jazz as
well as the blues. “Brian’s music fits perfectly with the ambiance and
history of the Mill,” Mrs. Clark stated. “We are so pleased that this
talented young man will be a part of our event,” she concluded.
In addition to resident potter Julie Clark, the Bear’s Mill potters
include Ben Deeter, Dionne Fleming, Rita Wiley, Loretta Wray. The
stoneware bowls will be of varying sizes and in 20 different styles,
featuring a variety of glazes; however, they will be made in sets of
eight so that patrons wishing to purchase matching bowls may do so. The
soup is being donated by The Bistro Off Broadway in Greenville, and
bread will be provided by Troy’s Bakehouse Bakery.
Tickets for the event are available at the Mill and cost $25 each or
$20 for members of Friends of Bear’s Mill, the non-profit organization
which operates the Mill; serving times are 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 8
p.m. To reserve tickets, call 937-548-5112; more information is
available at www.bearsmill.com. Bear’s Mill is located at 6450
Arcanum-Bear’s Mill Road about 5 miles east of Greenville.
