Area Dog Club...
Dog Training Classes
begin March 4
GREENVILLE – The Greenville Area Dog Club late winter session of
obedience, agility, and conformation classes begins the week of March 4.
“People are interested in the many aspects of dog training,” said Barb
Rhoades, director of obedience training. “We’ve tried to have a variety
of classes to suit most dog owners’ interest and needs.”
The Greenville Area Dog Club will be offering classes at the former
U.S. Chemical building, located in the 5400 block of State Route 49.
Obedience classes begin Tuesday, March 6. Classes offered include puppy
(12 weeks to five months), beginner, beginner novice, novice, and open
obedience. Conformation classes will be offered on Monday nights.
“Our puppy and beginning obedience classes are designed to teach basic
house manners, grooming and care of the dog, heeling, sit, down, stay,
and other commands,” said Rhoades.
She added that a new class is being offered for clients who have
completed beginner class and want to continue with training. The
Beginner Novice class is designed to review what they learned in
beginner class and correct any training mistakes or difficulties that
have arisen as well as teach the first steps to receiving an AKC degree
called Beginner Novice. Some off lead work is introduced, as well as
more advanced training methods.
“Dogs and clients who have taken the class have really enjoyed the
experience,” she said.
Registration for obedience classes is from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Tuesday,
March 6th. Orientation and classes will follow registration.
Dogs must be up-to-date on vaccinations, and participants must bring a
copy of the dog’s vaccination records to registration. Puppies must
have had their first two sets of vaccinations to enroll in puppy
class. Veterinarians need to certify all vaccinations given at
home or by a breeder.

Charlotte Wisener, director of agility, said that dog agility classes
will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays. Some of the classes
offered include Introduction to Agility, Beginners, Intermediate
Agility Class and Advanced Agility Class. Special classes are offered
for distance training and start line stays. The Monday classes begin on
Monday, March 5, while the Wednesday classes begin on Wednesday, March.
Pre-registration is required for agility classes. To pre-register,

Those participating in Greenville Area Dog Club classes are reminded
that parking is available both in front of the building as well as near
the rear entrance. The entrance for dog classes is located on the north
side of the building, near the rear.
Those bringing dogs to class are reminded to feed the dogs earlier in
the day, rather than before class.
Most classes use dog treats as training aids. Participants are reminded
to bring small, bite-sized soft treats that can be used for rewarding
their dogs.
Participants also are reminded to wear comfortable, tie-on shoes, and
to dress warmly.
