Darke
County League of Women Voters...
State
Officers Flack, Henkener to visit local group in August
Meg Flack,
Co-President of the League of Women Voters of Ohio and Ann Henkener, a
state
League Director, will be joining local
League members in welcoming prospective new members for their August
8th LWV
new member meeting. Members
are again
looking forward to sharing the evening with Meg and Ann, remembering
the fun
and informative time of Meg’s last visited.
Meg has
served on the League of Women Voters of Ohio state board as president,
secretary and chair of the Advocacy Committee.
She looks forward to continuing to work with
members throughout the
state. She has a
long history of
community volunteerism and has held leadership positions with Court
Appointed
Special Advocates of Franklin County, Voices for Children and Families
and the
Junior League of Columbus. Flack
holds a
Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Management and a Doctorate in
Sociology
from The Ohio State University, where she formerly taught sociology.
Ann has
spearheaded the Voters First Initiative, a move to put voter
redistricting on
the ballot. If the
initiative is
successful. the responsibility of drawing up voter districts will be on
the
shoulders of a panel of citizens representing both parties rather than
the whim
of which ever party is the majority in office.
Ann received her bachelor’s degree in
sociology from The Ohio State
University and her doctorate
from
Capitqal University Law School. She
served eight years as in-house counsel for a non-profit health care
organization in Columbus. As
an
Assistant Attorney General, she spend twenty years representing the
State of
Ohio in regulating health care and public utilities.
She has been a board member of the League of
Women Voters of Ohio since 2007 and is the League’s Legislative
Director,
focusing on redistricting.
Both women
bring a wealth of information about the organization and its direction
for the
future. Involvement
of local members in
bringing education about issues to the community are prime goals of the
state
and national League of Women Voters.
They will be available at the meeting, planned
for the Chestnut Village
Center, to answer questions and provide insights on various state and
national
issues.
Those
attending will also meet League
members and enjoy finger food as they
learn about the state organization and the Darke County League’s plans
for the
coming year. For
