“The
Twelve” returns to Greenville First
United Methodist Church “The
Twelve” returns to Greenville March 22, 2012
After a
year’s absence, a tradition beloved by many is returning once again to
Greenville.
On Maundy
Thursday, April 5th at 7:30 PM, First
United Methodist Church invites
the
public to relive the events that transpired in 33 AD.
This will be the 36th year that The Twelve
will have graced the stage of FUMC’s Fellowship Hall.
Much is the
same with this production as in years past.
As before, the drama is a dramatic reenactment
of the meal Jesus had in
the Upper Room in Jerusalem, and is staged as an almost exact portrayal
of the
world famous Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci.
New this year
is an updated script and music, both by Ruth Elaine Schram. The new script provides an
element of
powerful drama as the men speak of their time with Christ leading up to
that
disturbing moment when Jesus says to them, “One of you will betray me.” The anthems will
be performed by the FUMC
Chancel Choir, under the direction of Debbie Weyrick, and accompanied
by Judy
Kugel.
As
in years past, seating will be in groups
of twelve and Holy Communion will be served at each table. Seating is by reservation
only and is filling
up quickly. Make
your reservations now
by calling First United Methodist Church at 548-3075.
A free will offering will be received; FUMC
regrets that there will be no child-care provided for this night. First UMC is located on
the corner of Fourth
and Sycamore Streets in Greenville.
