Darke County Center for the Arts
High School students to learn songwriting techniques

Darke County Center for the Arts will present singer/songwriter Jonathan Kingham in all local public high schools from November 12 through 15 as part of its Arts In Education program. Jonathan is a folk, pop, and jazz musician and award-winning songwriter who will help students learn how to write their own songs. Arts In Education shows are presented to students at no charge, and are free and open to the public.

According to DCCA Artistic Director Keith Rawlins, Jonathan Kingham is a rising star whose songs have been featured in many movies and TV shows. Kingham has toured with diverse artists including Julio Iglesias, Jr. and currently plays keyboard and steel guitar for Toad the Wet Sprocket. “Jonathan can relate to audiences of all ages through his music, charm, and wit,” Rawlins said. “He has demonstrated his remarkable ability to inspire students to write meaningful songs in schools across the nation; DCCA feels justifiable pride in snaring an artist of this caliber to share his gifts in our community,” Rawlins concluded.

Arts In Education is sponsored by Dayton Power and Light Company Foundation, Greenville Federal, Maid-Rite Sandwich Shoppe, Vectren Foundation, Edison Community College, The Andersons Inc., Family Health, BASF, Littman-Thomas Agency, and Mercer Savings Bank, and receives support from the Ketrow Foundation and the Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund. DCCA also receives operating support from memberships, the Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial and the Ohio Arts Council, which helped fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.

DCCA's Arts In Education series presents performing artists to students at all grade levels in each local public school. Performance schedules are set in cooperation with the schools. Contact DCCA at 937-547-0908 or dcca@centerforarts.net for specific performance times for Jonathan Kingham or to learn more about the Arts In Education series.

DCCA is also presenting Jonathan Kingham at The Coffee Pot in downtown Greenville on Thursday, November 15 at 7 p.m. The show is the third of DCCA's Coffeehouse Series presentations which provide high quality performers in a casual, comfortable social setting where food and drink are also served. Tickets for the Coffeehouse show are $10 and may be obtained by contacting DCCA at 937-547-0908 or on-line at www.centerforarts.net.
