The
Archbishop of Cincinnati To Visit Greenville
Dennis
M. Schnurr, the Archbishop of Cincinnati, will visit St. Mary’s
Catholic Church
in Greenville, Ohio on Monday, October 29, 2012. St. Mary’s Church is
located
at 238 West Third Street in Greenville. Its pastor is Father John
White. The
Archbishop will celebrate mass at 10:00 am.
The
purpose of the Archbishop’s visit is to mark the upcoming 125th
anniversary of
St. Mary’s school located just across the street from the church. The
school,
established in 1888, has proudly been educating the children of the
city of
Greenville and the surrounding area for 125 years. Today, dedicated lay
teachers continue the educational tradition that the Sisters of Charity
(Cincinnati) began so long ago. St. Mary's school offers a pre-school
through
8th grade education. The school features small class sizes that allow a
unique
level of individual attention for each student. Catholic schools are
renowned
for academic excellence. Students in Catholic schools consistently
score in the
top 1/3 on nationally standardized tests.
Archbishop
Schnurr, 62, was named Archbishop in 2009 when he succeeded Archbishop
Daniel
Pilarczyk. As head of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, Archbishop Schnurr
is
responsible for a half million Catholics in 220 parishes in 19 counties
in
south and northwest Ohio. Administratively the archdiocese is divided
into
three areas – Cincinnati, Dayton and the northern area. The central
administrative
offices for the archdiocese are located in Cincinnati at 100 E. Eighth
Street,
with other offices in Dayton and Sidney.
