U.S. Army Field Band
presents free concert
The internationally acclaimed United States Army Field Band will
present a free public performance at Greenville High School Gymnasium
on Friday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. The concert, sponsored by Darke
County Center for the Arts, will also feature the 29-member Soldiers'
Chorus. Described as “a great instrument for stirring patriotic
emotions,” the Field Band is the official touring musical
representative of the U.S. Army.
Since its formation in March, 1946, the Field Band has appeared in all
fifty states and more than thirty countries. This 65-member band
presents a powerful and diverse program of marches, popular music,
patriotic selections, overtures, and instrumental and vocal solos. The
group is considered by music critics to be one of the most versatile
and inspiring musical organizations in the world. Its members, selected
by highly competitive audition, represent some of the finest musical
talent in America.
The Field Band was the first military band to present a formal concert
in New York's Carnegie Hall, and has performed at many of the finest
venues in the U.S., including the Hollywood Bowl and the Kennedy Center
in Washington, D.C. The Band has marched in numerous Presidential
Inaugural Parades, escorted the President on many occasions, and played
for many visiting heads-of-state.
Although the Field Band's concert is free, tickets are required, and
may be obtained at several locations including the Greenville Daily
Advocate office, Montage, and the Greenville Public Library, as well as
from Darke County Center for the Arts. For more information, contact
