Darke County Republican
Pig Roast
Former
U.S. Secr. of Agriculture featured speaker
by Lyn Bliss, Assistant Editor
“We are so very happy to
announce Mike Johanns as the
featured speaker at our upcoming Republican Pig Roast,” said Cindy
Pike, Chair
of the Darke County Republican Party. “He has so much knowledge in
Agriculture
and what is happening in Washington, D.C. today; that it should be a
very
interesting presentation for the residents of Darke County.”
Johanns currently serves
on the United States Senate
Committee On Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry; the United
States Senate
Committee On Banking, Housing, And Urban Affairs; the United States
Senate
Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW); the United States
Senate
Committee On Indian Affairs; and the United States Senate Committee On
Veterans' Affairs. He is the Ranking Member on the Agriculture
Committee's
Livestock, Dairy, Poultry, Marketing and Agriculture Security
Subcommittee; the
Banking Committee’s Security, International Trade and Finance
Subcommittee; and
the EPW Committee’s Oversight Subcommittee.
Shortly after becoming
the U.S. Senator for Nebraska, Johanns
developed an in-depth farm bill proposal, which became the foundation
for
improvements and reforms adopted in the final 2008 farm bill.
He grew up on a farm
where he learned a work ethic that has
been put to use serving the people of Nebraska and this country. The
values he
developed while growing up serve as the foundation for his commitment
to public
service.
Johanns is married to
Stephanie Johanns, former Lancaster
County Commissioner and Nebraska State Senator. The couple has two
children and
five grandchildren.
“We look forward to the
Darke County Agricultural community
welcoming Johanns at our annual GOP Pig Roast.” said Dori Howdieshell,
co-chair
of the event.
Greenville High School’s
