Gearing
up for GOBA
Statewide Bike Tour to Travel through Greenville
GREENVILLE
– The 2013 Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure (GOBA) is set to
begin on June 15 and travel through western Ohio, stopping in
Greenville on
June 18 and 19.
Currently
celebrating its 25th year, GOBA is a week-long, bicycle
tour that spans several counties and passes through dozens of towns and
cities.
This year, Greenville will play host to more than 2,000 riders for a
mid-week
overnight visit. Riders will camp at Greenville High School.
Starting
the tour in Urbana, GOBA riders will ride from town to
town enjoying food and water breaks sponsored by local non-profit
organizations.
Deanna
York, executive director of the Darke County Visitors Bureau
and local enthusiast, Betty Birt are coordinating efforts in Greenville
including entertainment, food, transportation, information and
campground
logistics.
“We
are thankful for the individuals who have volunteered to assist
with these efforts,” shared York. “All of the committee members
appreciate Greenville,
and have a desire to share the historic and cultural aspects of our
town with
the riders.”
To
date, visits have been coordinated with Garst Museum and The
National Annie Oakley Center, as well as The KitchenAid Stand Mixer
Factory, KitchenAid
Experience Retail Center and Bear’s Mill.
In
addition, riders will have the opportunity to explore downtown
Greenville. Transportation will be provided for riders, and a Ghost
Walk is
being planned for riders and locals as well to learn the history and
stories of
downtown.
“We
appreciate the vibrancy of downtown due in part to the efforts
of Main Street Greenville,” expressed Birt. “The committee is looking
forward
to introducing riders to the downtown community of shops and
restaurants.”
