American
Red Cross
Darke County
100 Volunteers Needed
Preparedness Walk is Coming Soon
Darke
County, August 23, 2013
For over five years, the American Red Cross
Darke County Chapter has been celebrating Preparedness Month with
disaster and
emergency partners by going door to door in Darke County neighborhoods,
telling
residents about how they can prepared their homes and families for a
disaster;
as well as leaving them informational pamphlets and new last year, the
Vial of
Life. This year’s
goal to reach 3000
Darke County homes is bigger than ever but it can’t be done with
community
support. Volunteers
are needed to walk
from home to home in pairs, knocking on doors and helping create
stronger
communities.
“This
is an excellent project for a church to
get involved with their local community or a way for a business to give
back to
the neighborhood that supports them,” stated Lynne Gump, Executive
Director of
the Darke County Chapter, “It’s a good way to support us, your
community and
get some healthy excise, a win-win-win.!”
Volunteers
will need to contact the Darke
County Chapter by phone 937-548-1002 or email at
Lynne.Gump@Redcross.org to
sign up for the event and will need to be available on September 9th
from
5:30-8:00 to attend a brief orientation and then drive to your assigned
neighborhood. Additionally,
volunteers
return any unused supplies back to the chapter after the walk, check in
and
enjoy light refreshments.
While Red
Cross volunteers generally wear vests identifying themselves, area
organizations,
churches, clubs and businesses are welcome to wear their own “company”
shirts,
sharing some organizational pride and recognition.
For
those who would like to help with this
project but can’t walk, the chapter is in need of individual bottled
water,
snack items and recyclable tote/bags so volunteers can manage to carry
bags
from door to door with minimal effort.
These items can be dropped off at the Chapter
office, anytime from
8:30-4:30, Monday –Friday or by special appointment at other times.
Volunteers
need to be signed up by noon on Friday, September 6th to walk in the
event. For more
information on how to
volunteer for this event or others, people can visit
