August
Brunch & Learn at Heartland
Heartland
of Greenville’s monthly Brunch & Learn will be held on
Wednesday, August 14
at 10 a.m. and will feature Gracie Belle, a 19-month-old AKC-registered
poodle
who has recently completed her Therapy Dogs International (TDI)
certification.
Gracie
Belle is owned by Heartland Hospice Chaplain Candy Null of New Madison,
who has
trained her for use as a therapy dog to provide comfort to patients in
skilled
nursing and rehab centers and other settings.
According to Null, “Gracie enjoys people and
is sensitive to their pain
and their needs. She
is always willing
to be petted and provide comfort to those we visit.”
TDI
is
a non-profit, volunteer organization whose mission is the “regulation,
testing,
selection and registration of qualified dogs and handlers for the
purpose of
visitations to hospitals, nursing homes and facilities or any place
where
Therapy Dogs are needed.” In order to receive TDI certification, a dog
must go
through extensive training and pass a series of tests, including the
AKC’s
Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test. In
2012,
there were over 24,000 dog/handler teams registered through TDI in the
United
States and Canada. For more information about the TDI organization,
please

The
public is invited to meet Gracie Belle and to enjoy a free brunch at
Heartland
