Garst Museum Announces
New Exhibit Focusing on Darke County
The Darke
County
Historical Society, in partnership with the Wright State University
Public History Program, is pleased to announce the opening of a new
exhibit at the Garst Museum in Greenville, Ohio. “Pathway to the
Present: The Towns and Villages of Darke County,” opens Sunday,
December 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm. The new exhibit focuses on the growth of
Darke County’s urban areas from 1850 to 1930. Advancements in
agriculture, commerce, industry, and transportation made this a
period of intense growth for the area.
Garst
Museum intern
and Public History student Jason Swiatkowski has been researching and
planning the exhibit since early summer. “This display will
interpret and illustrate the development of the county from an
undeveloped wilderness to a settled and vibrant rural community. It
will explore some areas in the county that are less well known during
a time period people may not have thought about.” Support for the
exhibit was provided by the Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust, the
Amie McClurkin Community Grant, the Coppock- Hole Trust, Kay Brown,
the Nealeigh Design Group, and the Darke Rural Electric Trust.
Please
join us on
Sunday, December 8 to celebrate Darke County’s history. Fun for all
ages, the event also coincides with the Garst Museum’s Holiday Open
House that starts at 1:00 PM.
