What’s
Banding All About?
Have
you ever seen a bird with a
colored “bracelet” on its leg or heard of someone “banding” a bird and
wondered
why someone would do that? Join
the
Darke County Park District as we welcome Dr. Dave Russell, of the Avian
Research and Education Institute, to the Nature Center on Saturday,
February
9th at 9:00 am and discover how and why scientists use this popular
technique.
The
Avian Research and Education
Institute (AREI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing
the
preservation of avian populations. AREI is committed to establishing
biological
stations that will provide bird banding and environmental education to
the
public.
After
our informative lecture, we’ll
head to the bird banding station to watch as Dr. Russell bands our
local
songbirds. Space is limited, pre-register early by calling the Nature
Center at
937.548.0165. The
fee for this program
is $2. For more
information on this and
other programs, please visit our website at www.darkecountyparks.org
