DCCA announces directors for
Missoula Children’s Theatre residency
Darke
County Center for the Arts' Missoula Children' Theatre
residency at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville July 29
through August
3 will be led by two young women with diverse experience in their
chosen field.
June Hundley holds a B.A. in theatre from James Madison University;
last
summer, she performed in Avignon France, as Clarice in The Servant of
Two
Masters, and also swam in an onstage pool in a unique staging of
Metamorphosis.
Her acting/directing partner is Faith Howes, who graduated from Emerson
College
with a degree in theatre education and performance. Faith has not only
acted in
a broad variety of productions, but has also directed shows.
“Although
we have not yet met these young ladies, we already know
that they will be exceptional in every way; MCT has earned a stellar
reputation
for hiring people who are wonderful performers, great teachers, and
outstanding
people,” said DCCA Artistic Director Keith Rawlins. DCCA has presented
a
week-long Missoula Children's Theatre residency for many years,
offering local
youngsters the opportunity for hands-on experience in a full-scale
theatrical
production based upon classic children's literature; this year's show
is The
Tortoise vs. the Hare.
The
residency begins at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 29 when local
first- through twelfth-grade students will try out for 60 available
roles;
following a brief lunch break, rehearsals will begin immediately
following
auditions and continue throughout the week. Two performances of The
Tortoise
vs. the Hare will be presented on Saturday, August 3 – a matinee at 3
p.m. and
an evening performance at 7 p.m.
According
to Mr. Rawlins, no preparation is necessary for the
group audition. “A ready smile and paying close attention to the
directors'
instructions always helps,” Mr. Rawlins explained. Those wishing to try
out
should arrive by the scheduled starting time, and remain for the entire
session. Although not all cast members are needed at every rehearsal,
those
auditioning should have a clear schedule for the entire week.
“We
encourage all local youth to take part in this fun and
fulfilling activity,” stated Andrea Jordan, DCCA Executive Director.
“Missoula
Children's Theatre's stated mission is 'the development of life skills
through
participation in the performing arts,' so not only do kids act, sing,
and
dance, but they also learn to accept responsibility as they enhance
their
social skills, and gain confidence in themselves as well as increase
respect
for others while having a great time participating in the arts,” Ms.
Jordan
concluded.
The
residency by Missoula Children's Theatre is made possible by a
grant from Darke County Endowment for the Arts. Darke County Center for
the
Arts also receives funding from local businesses, foundations, and the
Ohio
Arts Council. Tickets to the performance cost $5; to reserve tickets
for either
Saturday performance of MCT's The Tortoise Versus the Hare or for
