Bill
Booker
Lectures on Annie Oakley
The
third lecture
in a series by Bill Booker is scheduled for Tuesday July 2nd at 2:00
p.m. in
the Reference Room of the Greenville Public Library.
The title is “Daughter of a Gun - Our
Annie.” Bill’s
lectures are always
insightful, entertaining, and full of little-known facts and anecdotes.
In
Bill’s words...
She
came from a
large family, born in northwestern Darke County, she had a superior
mother, a
natural father and two step fathers....and just one brother, the man
who first
taught her how to hold a gun....and how to aim high and hit the mark.
The
lectures
span her 66 years, smooth out some facets of the usually unknown
Annie....and
turn some truths right side up. She used her unusually sharp eyesight
to make
utterly clean kills of all manner of game which she sold first in
Greenville
and then as far away as Cincinnati where she met her future husband,
himself a
sharp shooter, Frank Butler.
As
part of the
famous Buffalo Bill Wild West Show and Congress of Roughriders, she
crisscrossed the country and made exhibition trips to Europe where she
performed before the major crowned heads of government.
There is more to tell than time can allow....
Little Miss Sure Shot - that was Annie.
