Public
Library
Bill
Booker
Lecture on Lowell Thomas
Local
historian
& author Bill Booker will give the second lecture in a series
on Tuesday,
May 7th at 2:00 p.m. in the Green ville Public Library’s Reference Room. The title is “Lowell
Thomas - A Man For All
Seasons.” In
Bill’s words:
“To
know him was
to be at once startled, surprised, and reassured all at the same
instant. A true
pioneer broadcast newsman, he was the
original Walter Cronkite, the original Huntley-Brinkley put together. And he found time to
author no less than 57
non-fiction books.
“L.T.,
as his
friends called him, was born in the Darke County hamlet of Woodington,
six
miles north of Greenville, in 1892.
Until his demise nearly 90 years later, he
earned the title of Voice of
American Radio and TV Newscasts. And
there was a lot more to this man...locally born and raised who’s own
son rose
to a lieutenant governorship... and a man who never for a minute forgot
his
roots here in west central Ohio.”
Bill,
who was a
friend of Lowell’s, will share “personal memories of this great
individual and
winner of the coveted Presidential Medal.
You will come away filled with respect for
this tremendous man.” Bill
is seen left with Lowell and Mr. & Mrs.
W.D. Brumbaugh in a photo from the 1970’s.
