Gardeners Workshop – September 16, 2013
Are you interested in
learning how a cover crop and no-tillage will work in your garden? If
so, the Darke Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and the
City of Greenville will be hosting a free workshop on Monday,
September 16th for home gardeners at the Darke County EMA conference
room. The focus of this meeting will be educating local gardeners
how they can utilize cover crops to maximize their soil health for
next year’s fruit and vegetable crop.
Hear Sam Custer, Darke
County OSU Extenstion; discuss proper soil sampling tips to ensure a
good soil test. Alex Johnson and Aaron Overholser will discuss
no-till gardening techniques and equipment. To finish up the evening,
representatives from Darke SWCD will discuss the different cover crop
varieties available, how they impact your garden soil and what the
anticipated cost will be to the gardener.
Those who preregister will
receive a garden cover crop mixture, courtesy of Stuck Seeds, for use
this fall in your garden. Please call the Darke SWCD office to
register at 937-548-1715, ext. 3. If you have any questions
regarding the workshop, ask for Greg McGlinch.
Darke County EMA is located
on 5183 County Home Rd, Greenville, OH. Registration will begin at
5:45pm and the meeting will run from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.
