Quilting 101
Darke County Park District
hosts another very successful program. Quilting 101 took place in the
Log House at Shawnee Prairie. The participants first learned how to
make a quilters knot using quilters thread. Once the knots were
mastered everyone had their own fabric coaster to work on as they
were taught the basics of quilting, how to hide the knots within the
layers of a quilt and trying to make all of the stitches the same
length and attempt to follow a straight line.
Several of the participants
in the room were beginners and realized that quilting is truly a
special talent and once you complete a project you would want to
treasure it forever. Once everyone’s coasters were completed we
moved over to the quilting frame where a full size churn dash quilt
was waiting for us to give our newest skill a try. All of the
participants gathered around the frame and began quilting. As the
end of the program approached quickly, we decided to meet again soon.
Please feel free to join us on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at 11AM
in the Log House at Shawnee Prairie Preserve where we will continue
working on quilting the quilt in the frame.
Darke County Parks would
like to thank Sue Vickory for piecing together the churn dash quilt
and for teaching the Quilting 101 program. Everyone who attended
had a great time and enjoyed learning about this very special skill.
