DCCA presents
blues artist at the Bistro Off Broadway
Darke County Center for the Arts will present Cleveland-based blues
singer Austin “Walkin' Cane” at The Bistro Off Broadway in Greenville
on Thursday, January 8. A part of DCCA's Coffeehouse Series that offers
outstanding artists performing in intimate casual settings where food
and drink are available for purchase, “Walkin' Cane's” performance will
begin at 7 p.m.
The artist earned his nickname when, due to a congenital problem
affecting his now-amputated leg, he used a cane to assist him while
walking. “Walkin' Cane” specializes in Delta blues, but says that his
repertoire is a “gumbo” that conjures up many shades of blues
expression. Known as a master of the slide guitar as well as for his
smoky baritone voice, “Walkin' Cane” performed at The Bistro two years
ago and is returning due to popular demand, according to DCCA Artistic
Director Keith Rawlins. “He played to a sold-out house who didn't want
him to quit; we promised then that we'd bring him back, and we are
fulfilling that promise. I expect him to sell out this time, too, so
I'd suggest buying your tickets now,” Rawlins said.
DCCA's Coffeehouse Series is sponsored by Julie and Tom Graber, Eileen
and Steve Litchfield, and Rodney Oda and The Andersons Marathon LLC.
The Ohio Arts Council helped fund this program with state tax dollars
to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural
enrichment for all Ohioans. DCCA also receives operating support from
the Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial as well as funding from the
Ketrow Foundation and Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund.
Tickets for the performance by Walkin' Cane cost $10, and are available
for purchase at The Bistro off Broadway or can be purchased through
DCCA at 937-547-0908 or www.CenterForArts.net. Those wishing to
enjoy dinner prior to the performance can make reservations by calling
The Bistro at 937-316-5000.
