Concert pianist Alpin Hong
returns to St. Clair Memorial Hall --March 8
Darke County Center for the
Arts will present concert pianist Alpin Hong at Henry St. Clair
Memorial Hall in Greenville on Saturday, March 8. “When Alpin was
here while we were enduring a dreadful streak of hazardous winter
weather three years ago, he absolutely wowed the audience of hardy
music lovers who braved the elements to make it to his concert;
members of that crowd instantly demanded a quick return for this
remarkable musician so that his vast talents could be demonstrated
for and appreciated by the larger audience his stunning performances
merit,” stated DCCA Artistic Director Keith Rawlins. The concert,
part of DCCA's Artists Series, begins at 8 p.m.
Mr. Rawlins reveals that in
addition to his extensive classical training, Alpin Hong has an
eclectic background in skateboarding, snowboarding, martial arts, and
video games. “Alpin's warm humor and boundless energy combined with
his wide-ranging interests and amazing skill at the piano helps him
connect to people of all ages, experiences, and backgrounds,” the
DCCA official said. The New York Times lauded the artist's
“crystalline energy. . . clear and persuasive ideas. . . and
remarkable breadth” and called him “a pianistic firebrand” in
its review of Hong's standing-room only recital debut at Carnegie
Hall.
The Alpin Hong concert is
sponsored by Jim and Enid Goubeaux and Greenville National Bank.
Additionally, the Ohio Arts Council helped fund this program with
state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational
excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. DCCA also
receives operating support from the Harry D. and Esther Stephens
Memorial as well as funding from the Ketrow Foundation and Lydia E.
Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund.
Alpin Hong will also
perform for junior high students as part of DCCA's Arts In Education
program on March 6 and 7. These performances are free and open to the
public. Performance schedules are arranged in cooperation with local
public schools; contact DCCA for more information regarding specific
