David Fair on the Square ∙
Marla Fair
Local Troy author, Marla
Fair, will appear this Friday January 10th, 2014, at Montage Café in
Greenville, OH, at the Greenville Public Library’s Friends of the
Library Author’s Night to promote her newest novel, Morning through
the Shadows. The novel, set in 1848 Troy, takes a page from the
town’s rich history. It tells the tale of her immigrant McCurdy
ancestors who left famine-wasted Ireland behind for the hopes and
dreams of a better life in America – one of them with a secret.
Robert McCurdy was the
eldest of at least five brothers who were among the earliest
residents of Troy, OH. In fact the family owned so much farmland
west of the city in Concord Township that the road they lived on was
named after them. Coming to America in 1848 to join his brothers who
were already residents of the fast growing 19th century town, Robert
met Nancy Cain on the ocean journey from Ireland and proposed
marriage. Nancy accepted and the couple was married in May of 1848.
The only problem was, Nancy
already had a husband – and he was on her trail.
Morning through the Shadows
contains both mystery and myth. Based on the true story of Marla
Fair’s ancestors it brings together elements of romance and danger
as Nancy is sought by her obsessive husband, William Boyd, a creature
of wealth and privilege whose arrogance drives him to utilize his
connection to the ancient order of Masons to track her down.

through the Shadows may be purchased at the author’s website
