Fort GreeneVille DAR storytime at the Gathering at Garst

Fort GreeneVille Chapter DAR is inviting school age children to a story time at the Gathering at Garst on Saturday, July 26th at 2:00pm.

At the Burkett Encampment Tent, John and Karen Burkett and DAR chapter members will have a story time based on the "Fort Life" book written by Boobie Kalman and David Schimay. The Burketts will be in period dress in order to give a visual of fort life in the 1800’s. Also included in the story time will be activities and treats. Afterwards there will be a drawing for a copy of the book to a child participating in the story time. The Garst Gift Shop donated the book to the DAR chapter's literacy program. Also the Treaty of Greenville Bicentennial Commission donated several Second Treaty of Greenville commemoration booklets to be given out as supplies last.

Education is one of the cornerstones of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Across the country, Daughters are meeting the challenge of educating the public by emphasizing the importance of being able to read. By supporting literacy, it enables self respect and confidence besides reaching life goals. Story times are a way of encouraging parents to instill a love of reading in their children.
