Day set for April 3rd at Wayne HealthCare
Type
2 Diabetes is a disease in which your pancreas does not make any or
enough insulin, or your body prevents the insulin you produce from
working correctly. Insulin is necessary for your body to use
glucose, from the food you eat, for energy. High levels of glucose
caused by uncontrolled blood sugar can damage your eyes, heart,
kidneys, nerves, legs, and feet.
Taking
steps to control your blood sugar level can help you to live a
healthy life with diabetes. However, these steps can sometimes seem
overwhelming. Break your steps down into Self Care Behavioral Goals
which include: Healthy Eating, Being Active, Monitoring, Taking
Medication, Problem Solving, Healthy Coping, and Reducing Risk.
Diabetes Day is a wonderful opportunity to learn about some of these
behavioral goals.
Diabetes
Day will be offered at Wayne HealthCare on Thursday, April 3, 2014. The
program will take place from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Speakers
will discuss topics of interest to individuals with diabetes. Along
with speakers, there will be educational information to help you with
your daily diabetes care.
Alison
Huet, pharmacist, from Kaup Pharmacy, will be presenting a program on
“Diabetes Medication”. It can be confusing why you are on a
certain diabetes medication, when family or friends are on another
medication. Alison will discuss how the different types of
medications work to help manage your blood glucose.
Karen
Droesch RD,LD,CDE the Diabetes Educator at Wayne HealthCare will
discuss “Mindful Eating.” This topic will discuss “How, When,
Why, and How Much” we eat. Most individuals tend to eat without
really paying attention to what they are eating. This can lead to
eating for reasons other than being hungry and can impact your blood
sugar level.
Wayne
HealthCare is pleased to announce that the Diabetes Day program will
