Union City Indiana Hosts First Annual Arts
Festival
On October 10, 11, and 12 Union City Indiana will unveil the first of
an annual arts festival created to celebrate the arts and culture of
Union City, with an emphasis on creating opportunities for emerging
artists working across diverse media. Planning and production for
the festival has been in the works for a year and is a collaboration
between city volunteers and a group of Ball State University students
as part of a course taken over three semesters. The festival will
take place over a five block radius throughout downtown Union City.
The celebration begins on Friday night October 10 at the Arts
Depot. Saturday the festival kicks off at 11am and continue to 10pm,
and on Sunday events will run from 11am until 3pm. The ambitious
programming for the festival will feature four art exhibitions,
numerous musical performances, children’s programming, culinary
demonstrations, storefront installations, outdoor video projections, a
beer garden, and more.
Some festival highlights include organ concerts alongside silent film
at the Firehouse Pipes, a former fire station that is now home to a
1926 Grand Page Pipe Organ, and The Timbers Conn Organ which is the
largest organ ever made by Conn Organ Corp. of Elkhart, Indiana. Chris
Hawkey, a Minnesota Country/Rocker and his band will perform Saturday
evening. Hatch: New Midwestern Art is an exhibition featuring
contemporary work by regional emerging artists, and Size Matters, an
exhibition of miniature 3”x 3” artworks by local college and high
school art students. Ghyslain Chocolatiers will offer a tour of
their bakery on Saturday. Selected events are ticketed but most are
