Christian music
festival returns to Greenville
GREENVILLE – The Illumination Festival will be hosting a great line-up
of artists at its eighth annual festival of contemporary gospel music
at the Darke County Fairgrounds on Sept. 20 and 21. This year’s
featured artists include Tenth Avenue North, Britt Nicole, Plumb, and
Rhett Walker Band. Additional bands are expected to perform at the
annual event.
Presenting the truth of the Gospel has put Tenth Avenue North on the
right track. They have found success with all three of their studio
albums, Over and Underneath; The Light Meets the Dark; and most
recently, The Struggle. The latter two albums reached #1 on the U.S.
Christian chart. The band has also scored #1 hits with Strong Enough to
Save and You Are More. In 2009, Tenth Avenue North earned a Dove Award
for New Artist of the Year. They followed that award up a year later
with one for Song of the Year (By Your Side).
Nicole has had numerous top 10 hits, including You, The Lost Get Found,
Welcome to the Show, Safe, All This Time and Gold. She is also been
nominated for the Dove Award’s Female Vocalist of the Year and the
Grammy’s Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.
Plumb has a long and successful career as singer and songwriter, first
as a background vocalist for the likes of Bill Gaither and Amy Grant.
She has also co-penned songs for Mandisa, Mandy Moore, Natalie Grant
and more. She has released six albums since 1997, including Plumb,
candycoatedwaterdrops, Beautiful Lumps of Coal, Chaotic Resolve, Blink
and Need You Now.
In its third year, Day One will be held Sept. 20 and will be geared to
youth groups (students ages sixth through 12th grade) as a kick off for
their fall events. There will be special music with the Amplified youth
group, Radiant and All Changes Apply. There will also be a speaker. New
for Day One this year are the high ropes course, zip line and 30-foot
climbing wall. The cost for the youth service is $5 or five cans of
food per person. The food will be donated to the FISH Choice Food
Pantry. The youth service will be held at 6 p.m. and the high ropes and
other activities begin at 4 p.m.
There is also time to be part of the Light in the Darke 5K run through
the fairgrounds. The cost is $25 and will be held after the youth
service, 8:30 p.m. Register on-line at www.goodtimesraces.com or mail
to Light in the Darke 5K Run, 311 East St., Gordon, Ohio 45304.
Also beginning at 8:30 p.m. is the DJ Dance Party in the Youth Building.
Sunday activities begin with the annual church service at 10:30 a.m.
featuring Matt Haupt and worship band from Greenville EUM. Activities
throughout the afternoon will include a Coffee House with local and
regional artists and activities for youth. A $5 wrist band will cover
all games and rides for the afternoon, which include the 30-foot
climbing wall, Bully Buster Bus, laser tag, inflatables and volleyball
tournament.
