Prairie Days
Free Crafts and Games!
Hey Kids! Would you like to try to live as a pioneer child? It
may not be as easy as you think! Join us at Shawnee Prairie
Preserve for Prairie Days under the Craft Tent to try it out.
Prairie Days is a FREE Family Event and will be held September 27th
from 10-5pm and September 28th from 12-5pm.
During this weekend event, you can make your own candles using beeswax
or use a cider-press to make apple cider. Make a tin can lantern
to light your way on a dark night or make your own rag doll to play
with. Children can also learn new life-skills such as
weaving. Don’t forget to look the part by making your own hat or
bonnet. There will also be several pioneer games and competitions
such as a three-legged race and a seed spitting contest! Since
bathing was few and far between, you can make a tussy mussy from herbs
with a beautiful fragrance to take home. Check out Prairie Days
at Shawnee Prairie Preserve to see if you can live like a pioneer.
Prairie Days has something for everyone, from games and crafts for the
children to demonstrations and observations for the adults… and yes,
there are even games for the adults too! For more information,
visit our website at www.darkecountyparks.org or call at 937.548.0165
for more details. Prairie Days has so much to offer for the young
and young at heart!
