“Remembering
Wakefield” to be presented at Garst Museum
Betty Broderick and Marilyn Fritz will present “Remembering Wakefield”
at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, at a meeting of the Darke County
Genealogical Society at Garst Museum, 205 N. Broadway.
Wakefield was an early settlement in Greenville Township located on
Greenville-Celina Road just north of Childrens-Home Bradford Road. All
that remains of this settlement is the Wakefield school house and
what was at one time the Wakefield Lutheran Church. Betty
and Marilyn, who are sisters, have done extensive research on Wakefield
and their ancestor, Charlotte Mier Leis who was one of the early
settlers of this community. Betty and Marilyn are the authors of the
books, “Remembering Wakefield”, “My Sister’s Story” and “Charlotte’s
Bell”.
Also in attendance and speaking about their efforts to preserve and
restore the Wakefield school will be Bob Sharp and Jim Sommer.
The program is free and open to the public.
