A monarch butterfly caterpillar feeds on milkweed in preparation for
the magical transformation into a chrysalis!
Monarch Mania
at Darke County Parks!
The story of the monarch butterfly could be written as a miraculous
tale. Their journey to Mexico along with their beauty have captured the
hearts of many. Sadly, their population numbers are dropping across
their range. In the Midwest, and particularly here in Darke County, we
play a crucial role in preserving the habitat needed for the monarch to
survive. Head out to Shawnee Prairie Preserve Nature Center on St. Rt.
502 west of Greenville on Saturday September 5th at 2pm for afternoon
devoted to exploring more about monarch butterflies. For any questions
about this or any other programs, please call the Nature Center at
548-0165.
