Library Film
Series for August
Greenville Public Library's “Third Floor Film Series” continues on
August 13 at 7:00 p.m. Host David Nilsen states “We will feature
The Cincinnati Kid from 1965. Directed by Norman Jewison, the
film showcases an all-star cast featuring Steve McQueen, Edward G.
Robinson, Karl Malden, Ann-Margret, Tuesday Weld, Joan Blondell, and
Rip Torn.
“Steve McQueen stars as The Kid, a hotshot young poker player in New
Orleans who's climbing the ranks among the best in Depression-era
America. The only person he has left to beat is The Man, played by
Edward G. Robinson, the reigning king of stud poker. A high-stakes
match is set up between the two, and the society members of New Orleans
who have a taste for gambling begin laying bets on the outcome--and
trying to sway it. The film is gorgeously stylish and tons of fun.
“The Cincinnati Kid was one of the most purely entertaining films of
the 1960s, and this is sure to be a fun evening. Coffee, soft drinks,
candy, and popcorn will be available free of charge, and I will be
leading a brief discussion after the film. Please join us!”
