Railroad Museum plans 2015 events
The museum will be opening the museum in April with new hours. The
museum will be open Saturdays from 10 am- 4 pm. April- October. The
museum will open April 11, 2015 at 10 am. This will be when we honor
our past, present and future railroaders and their family. All
railroaders are welcome to attend free of charge. Come and meet other
railroaders and hear their stories.
The exhibit theme for the 2015 season is the 150th anniversary of
President Abraham Lincoln’s Funeral train.
The museum will be hosting a special program April 25, 2015 from 1 pm-
4 pm.
The program will high light Stan Wernz as President Lincoln. Mr Wernz
is a member of the Lincoln Impersonators and has acted as past
president of this group. He will present a program on Mr. Lincoln’s
life.
Mr. Lincoln will be at the museum from 2 pm- 4 pm.
The Stillwater Roundtable Civil War re- enactors will be at the museum
from 1 pm- 4 pm. They will be giving presentations and available to
answer questions on subjects ranging from weapons to women ‘s role
during the conflict. The cost is $4.
T he next event will be the annual Dining by Rail dinner and silent
auction. The dinner is prepared from recipes taken from the Dining by
Rail collection by James Porterfield. Mr. Porterfield’s book Dining by
Rail has over 300 recipes from different railroad lines. The event will
be held May 2, 2015 starting with the silent suction at 6 pm. Chef
Michael James will be preparing the food and is back my popular demand
to add his special touch to the buffet. Joseph Helfrich will
provide the entertainment for the evening. He is a great musician and
story teller. Silent Auction items include gift cards, tickets for
Amusement parks in the region, gift baskets of food and items for all
ages from area businesses.
Dining By Rail attempts to recreate the first class service and entrees
that made railroad dining car service such an elegant and delicious
affair. There was a peak of over 1,700 dining cars in service in
1930. Dining By Rail is a reservation only event with the
proceeds contributing to the capital improvements at the museum. The
museum is raising funds to qualify for the capital appropriation from
the State of Ohio. The project will be interpretative educational
exhibits designed, built and installed by Exhibit Concepts. Donations
can be made online.
The Railroad Festival will be held a little earlier this year on June
13, 2015 to avoid father’s day weekend.
This year there will be the train cake auction with a train auctioned
every hour. There will be a children’s train ride and train
related gifts and games. Model vendors and train layouts will be on
display. Train films will be on view at the museum. A new event
bid and buy will feature items for the whole family. Check the website
