Farm Bureau
sponsors Feb. 10 blood drive
GREENVILLE, Ohio - February may be the heart of winter, but the Darke
County chapter of the Ohio Farm Bureau is encouraging blood donations
with some warm reminders of spring, including fresh farm cooking and
flowers. The Darke County Farm Bureau will join forces with
Community Blood Center (CBC) to host a community blood drive Tuesday,
Feb. 10 from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Greenville Church of the
Brethren, 421 Central Ave.
Everyone who registers to donate will be entered in a drawing to win a
pair of tickets to the “Home Grown in Darke County” cooking series,
sponsored by the Darke County Farm Bureau. Donors will also
receive a free carnation donated by The Flower Patch in Greenville.
Organizers say the “Home Grown in Darke County” cooking series is ideal
for anyone who has ever thought about purchasing meat from a local
farmer or is simply looking for some guidance in buying fruits,
vegetables and other local produce. The four evening classes in
the cooking series are traditionally scheduled once a week in
July. It’s considered “Four nights of fun, cooking, eating and
education about local foods.”
CBC will also thank donors with February’s special collection donor
gift. Everyone who registers to donate at the Darke County Farm
Bureau’s blood drive will receive the “Warming Up To Give Blood” soup
crock. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment online at
www.DonorTime.com.
The ceramic soup crock is mug size with two handles, red on the inside
and black on the outside, with “Warming up to Give Blood” in red
lettering along with the CBC blood drop logo. It comes with a red
ceramic soup spoon. It’s free to everyone who registers to donate
Monday, Feb. 2 through Saturday, Feb. 28 at any CBC Donor Center and
most CBC mobile blood drives.
Blood is traditionally in short supply during the winter months due to
the holidays, travel schedules, inclement weather and illness.
February can be an especially difficult month for blood centers to
collect blood donations. If you have to miss an appointment, CBC
encourages you to reschedule when you are able. We especially
encourage the continued support of type O whole blood donors and type
A/B platelet and plasma donors.
