Blood donor
opportunities for January
DARKE COUNTY, Ohio –These blood drives come during January National
Blood Donor Month and CBC is celebrating with a special gift to help
donors keep warm this winter. Everyone who registers to donate will
receive a “Blood Drop Beanie” knit hat. Donors are encouraged to
schedule an appointment online at www.DonorTime.com.
The navy knit beanie is one-size-fits-all and features the red CBC
blood drop logo. It’s free to everyone who registers to donate
now through Saturday, Jan. 31 at any CBC Donor Center and most CBC
mobile blood drives.
January National Blood Donor Month is an added opportunity for CBC to
honor the donors, volunteers and staff members who have contributed to
its “50 Years of Saving Lives” legacy.
CBC celebrated its golden anniversary in 2014, marking 50 years since
the Dayton region’s first centralized blood bank opened its doors on
Sept. 14, 1964. The tradition of a “National Blood Donor Month”
began in 1970 with January designated as a special month to encourage
donors to give blood or make a pledge to donate.
Blood is traditionally in short supply during the winter months due to
the holidays, travel schedules, inclement weather and illness.
January can be an especially difficult month for blood centers to
collect blood donations. CBC begins the New Year with an ample
reserve and careful blood collection planning in place to reliably
provide the blood and blood products needed to our 25 partner hospitals
in CBC’s 15-county service area.
