Renfro to
perform for McCabe fundraiser
Schelchty’s Bar and Grill serves as hosts
By George Starks
NEW MADISION- The date is Saturday night. The event is a fundraiser for
cancer fighter, Mitch McCabe. A pork chop dinner will precede the
evening’s entertainment by Renfro. The cost is 10 dollars for dinner
which will include a pork chop, baked potato, green beans and a roll.
“We are going to donate 50 percent of that back to the Mitch McCabe
fund,” said Monica Schlechty in a phone interview. “With Tommy
performing, we are going to have a two dollar cover charge at the door
and Tommy is going to donate all of that to Mitch’s cause as well.
Tommy is donating all his time plus we are going to donate the fee that
Tommy would normally charge to this also. It’s all about Mitch.”
As a Christian artist, Renfro has been at the New Madison establishment
before so for Schlechty, it was a good fit for everyone involved.
“Tommy also does some country as well as his own stuff and he’s
performed here before,” said Schlechty. “Tommy wanted to do something
for Mitch. There are two rooms here. We have the bar on one side and
the restaurant on the other so everything is separated but the people
on the bar side will be able to hear the music.”
It’s no secret the name of McCabe and Renfro are synonymous to the
Tri-Village schools.
Tommy’s dad, the late Matt Renfro, was a teacher at Tri-Village as is
Tommy.
“Tommy is a very community minded person like his parents are” said
Schlechty. “Tommy wanted to do something for Mitch and this is his
donation to the cause.”
It was just over a month ago when Tri-Village and Franklin Monroe met
in ‘The Hangar’ for a huge basketball clash in the Cross County
Conference as reported by countynewsonline.org.
On that night, the Jets and their fans donated all the proceeds from
the nightly 50/50 drawing to McCabe’s cause.
McCabe, a Tri-Village graduate, has been diagnosed with Senopiol
Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that has produced a tumor that has
cocooned around his heart. It affects blood pressure and how the heart
flows the blood throughout the body.
More recently, the Patriots played host to Winchester High School and
the Falcons got into the act, making a huge donation to what is now
being called “On a Mission for Mitch.”
Saturday, people were being turned away at the door as the game was a
complete sell-out.
According to Schelchty, there will be no presale of tickets as all
tickets for dinner and the show will be at the door.
Schlechety also said there will be carryout of the pork chop dinners
available.
“We have room for about 60 people at one time,” said Schlechty. “I’m
assuming they will come and go so we figure many will come in, eat,
then leave. Once we hit capacity we will still have the carry-out, that
will still be available. We can put another 86 people on the bar side.
We will also be holding raffles as well. There will be a basket of Ohio
State items that will be raffled off. There will be a 50/50 drawing and
our half will go to the fund and we hope the person that wins it will
donate their share as well.”
Schlechty said $1,000 is the goal to be donated.
Schlechty’s is located at 124 W. Washington Street in New Madison (The
old Spanky’s Place) and dinner will start at 6:30 pm with the concert
set to start at 8 pm.
