Take Me Out To
The Poultry Days Festival
Click here for schedule of events
On June 12th-14th, the annual Poultry Days Festival returns to the
Village of Versailles. The festival theme of “Take Me Out To The
Poultry Days Festival” was selected by the 2015 Festival Chairman Brian
Pearson and pays tribute to the spirit of spring and baseball.
Brian has been on the Poultry Days Board of Directors for ten years and
has volunteered with Poultry Days for 16 years having previously, along
with the Versailles Fire Department, organized the Grand Parade.
Brian is a Firefighter and EMT-B and in 2015 became the Chief of the
Versailles Fire Department. Brian works at Custom Foam in Fort
Loramie and resides in Versailles while serving on the Heritage Park
Board, Secretary/Treasurer of Tasks, Inc., Co-Chair of the Versailles
Bike Rodeo, President of the Central Western Firemen’s Association,
Member of the Ohio Fire Chief’s Association and the Darke County
Association of Fire Chiefs.
Tens of thousands will gather in Versailles for the 64th annual
Versailles Poultry Days drawn to a weekend of Friends, Family and
Fun…..and of course, the chicken. People can’t get enough of that
World Famous barbeque chicken and festival organizers are hoping to
break that elusive record of 26,101 dinners. Each dinner comes
with 1⁄2 a chicken, Mikesells chips, applesauce, the traditional orange
drink and a dinner roll baked by the Versailles Sweet Shop and the
price will remain $7.50. Come see why Versailles is also known as
“Chicken City” and an operation that can serve 2,000 dinners an
hour. If you need to satisfy your chicken craving arrive early
because we sell out daily.
The Poultry Days Board of Directors has been working for a year
organizing one of the top summer attractions in West Central
Ohio. Offering two of the largest parades in the area, the Grand
Parade will be held at 11:00am on Saturday while the Antique Car and
Tractor parade will be held at 2:30 on Sunday. Bob and Kathy Frey
have been selected as Honorary Parade Marshals. New for 2015, the
Antique Car display, which precedes the Sunday parade, will be moved to
the Versailles High School to accommodate the increasing number of
vehicles which is expected to exceed 200 this year offering music, door
prizes and a raffle.
The Social Tent will be rockin with nine live acts beginning at 3:00pm
Friday, 1:00pm, Saturday and 1:00pm Sunday. Seating for 200 and
adult beverages including ice cold Anheuser Busch products, a craft bar
and a wide selection of wines and sangria coolers from The Winery at
Versailles will be available. Many of the best bands in the
area will be represented with Saw Creek, Eight Ball and Empty Tank
headlining. Some old favorites and new talent will light up the
stage with excitement.
The Darke County Photography club will return to the festival with
their photography competition. The 5k Run/Walk will be organized
by YOLO and will remain part of the Darke County Wellness
Challenge. YOLO is Darke County based and donates a portion of
its proceeds to community projects. The 5K will take place on
Saturday morning and has grown each year to 500 runners Also, the
Mister and Miss SuperFit challenge returns for a third year for those
testing their physical fitness. The Robots are back! Area
high school students from FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of
Science and Technology) will conduct a fascinating robot demonstration
on Sunday. A Cornhole Tournament, FREE Kiddie Tractor Pulls, a
2-on-2 basketball tournament, flower show, K of C Bingo, displays, cake
& egg decorating contest, and the famous Miss Chick and Little Miss
Poultry Days pageants. Interested in Reptiles? Valley
Exotics will be at the festival with a Reptile Trailer, Petting Zoo,
and Pony Rides. The Serendipity Mothers will be hosting nearly
100 vendors.
Kissel Brothers will be new to the festival with carnival games and
rides at much reduced prices. In addition to chicken there
will be your favorite festival foods and the Versailles Band Boosters
will be operating their food tent. Frisbees will also be flying,
so be sure to catch a game as the Ultimate Frisbee tournament, one of
the largest in the U.S., returns to Versailles once again. Not to
be forgotten, Rage and Rocko the Fire Prevention Dogs will also be
making appearances! Bear Hollow Wood Carvers of French Lick
Indiana returns to showcase a new carver. Jason Stoner with a
background in Graphic Arts will exhibit skills he has displayed in
England and Scotland as well as East Coast competitions.
Poultry Days offers plenty of activities for the whole family and a
great value for a weekend of family fun. Despite increasing
costs, the festival has found ways to trim expenses and keep prices low
for the 2015 festival. Both, chicken and social tent
beverage prices will remain the same as last year. Going a step
further, we have worked with our supplier to increase the average
chicken size! More World Famous chicken for the same great
price! Ride prices have been slashed. Last year a wrist
band cost $20 for four hours. This year, you can ride all day for
$20…only $15 if you buy presale. Admission is free with
parades on both Saturday and Sunday. FREE Kiddie Tractor Pull on
Sunday and plenty of attractions and events.
Poultry Days is a volunteer based non-profit organization in
Versailles, Ohio which has conducted one of Ohio’s oldest annual
festivals which celebrates the area’s history in the Poultry industry
since 1952. The festival is held at 459 S. Center St.,
Versailles, Ohio the second full weekend in June. To plan your
weekend of fun see the festival schedule and event registration at
