Scrap Arts Music
Saturday March 14th
The musicians of Scrap Arts Music are highly skilled, and incredibly
enthusiastic about what they do-which is to entertain mightily while
creatively fulfilling their aspirations to achieve new artistic
heights. Scrap Arts Music is a one-of-a-kind troupe of artists whose
hard-to-describe act has won world-wide acclaim. Darke County Center
for the Arts will present the five-member ensemble at Henry St. Clair
Memorial Hall on Saturday, March 14 as part of its Artists Series; this
amazing show will entertain all ages, motivating creativity as well as
wonder among the audience who will still be talking about what they
heard and saw long after the curtain falls.
Audiences can't help but lean forward in their seats while watching
extraordinary artists exhibit intense energetic involvement while
creating unique performances, contributing to the exhilarating exchange
of energy that elevates a show to memorable status. To share in an
unforgettable experience right here in your home community, contact
DCCA at 547-0908 or dcca@centerforarts.net. Tickets for the Scrap Arts
Music concert are $25, and can be purchased on-line at
www.centerforarts.net; if any remain by showtime, tickets will also be
available at the door prior to the show.
Scrap Arts Music will also present hour-long Arts In Education
performances at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall on Thursday, March 12 and
Friday, March 13, which will be attended by junior high students from
all local public schools at no charge to the youngsters. These shows
are free and open to the public, and in addition to the performance of
original percussion ensemble music, feature a brief introduction to
scrap instruments and their construction and an explanation of how the
music is composed and the choreography developed. Contact DCCA for more
information about specific times for these performances.
Irish Wave
Friday March 13th
Darke County Center for the Arts will host "Irish Wave" at Montage Cafe
in downtown Greenville on Friday, March 13. "We will bring the luck of
the Irish to Friday the 13th, celebrating St. Patrick's Day with a fund
raising party featuring Irish music, food, and a beer tasting; as with
all of our fund raisers, we promise a good time for a good cause," said
Andrea Jordan, DCCA Executive Director. Proceeds will benefit DCCA's
many programs including Arts In Education and the Family Theatre
Series. The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m.
Attendees can count on a diverse choice of beers; six tastes and a
commemorative beer glass are included in the price of admission. For
non-beer drinkers, other beverages including wine will be available;
Irish-themed food prepared by Montage proprietors Aaron and Michele Cox
will also be provided.
Music will be performed by Lone Raven, a group that DCCA Artistic
Director Keith Rawlins describes as one of the top bands in the
Midwest. "Lone Raven performs an eclectic blend of traditional music as
well as their own originals," Rawlins explained. "They'll tear through
peppy Irish reels, play haunting Gypsy fiddle tunes, and render soulful
airs, leaving the audience breathless and begging for more," Rawlins
said.
The musicians who make up Lone Raven, Craig Markley, Kara Markley,
Elizabeth Blickenstaff, Neil Jacobs, and Sid Omasta, play a broad
variety of instruments including keyboard, fiddle, mandolin, guitar,
accordion, whistle, and percussion. Sponsors for "Irish Wave" who make
possible the performance by Lone Raven are Second National Bank, The
Andersons Marathon LLC, Edward Jones Investment representatives Ryan
Carpe, Dave Connelly, Andria Haworth, Todd Subler and Bill Wolke, Dr.
Thomas and Suzanne Brown, and Zechar Bailey Funeral Home.
Tickets for "Irish Wave" are $35, and can be reserved by contacting
DCCA at 937-547-0908 or dcca@centerforarts.net, or purchased on-line at
www.centerforarts.net. Tickets are also available at Montage Cafe.
