Darke County Parks
Waterfowl of
Chestnut St. Marsh
Join a naturalist on Monday, November 16th at 8am at Chestnut Street
Marsh, near the model airfield driveway, to explore the interesting
world of waterfowl. The marsh of Chestnut Street has a valuable
ecosystem that offers a unique stopover location for many migrating
birds. The surrounding levy has recently been cleared, and the hike
will focus there. From there, hikers will explore the walk in entrance
to Shawnee Prairie and see what the prairies have in store. The walk
will cover the paved and mown trails around the marsh while searching
for a wide variety of birds and other species as they prepare for the
coming winter. Remember to dress for the weather, and use extreme
caution when parking alongside the road. Meet the naturalist on the
paved trail leading to the model airfield. For any questions about this
hike or any of the other programs offered by the Darke County Park
District, please call the Nature Center at (937) 548-0165 or visit the
website at www.darkecountyparks.org.
