Edison State to
Participate in Poetry Reading Event
This April marks the 20th anniversary of National Poetry Month and
Edison State Community College will be celebrating by participating in
the nation-wide poetry-reading event, “Poem in Your Pocket Day.”
Edison State English Department Professors Dr. Vivian Blevins and
William Loudermilk will both hold poetry-reading events. The community
as well as Edison State students and staff members are invited to
participate.
William Loudermilk will hold the first reading event on Wednesday,
April 20 from 11 a.m. to noon in room 233 of the Piqua campus. The
special guest poet for Loudermilk’s event is retired firefighter and
known poet Fred McLeod, who will share some of his poetry.
Dr. Vivian Blevins will hold the second reading event on Thursday,
April 21 from 12 to 1 p.m. in room 233 of the Piqua campus. Dr. Blevins
guest poet is Jane K. Kretschmann, of Piqua, a retired Edison State
Associate Professor of English. Kretschmann’s work can be found in
several printed and online journals and nationally broadcast radio
stations. Additionally, Kretschmann’s work has received multiple
accolades and she is a published author.
Those interested in participating may read any poem they have written
themselves or poetry written by others that they would like to share
with the groups. Poems can range from the classics to the moderns as
well as song lyrics.
Established in 2002, Poem in Your Pocket Day encourages individuals
from around the country to participate by selecting a poem, carrying it
with them, and sharing it with others throughout the day.
Admission is free and registration is not required. For more
