Farm Power of
the Past set for July 7-10
At the Darke County Fairgrounds from July 7 to 10, you may notice a few
old tractors and some activity, but that is only the beginning. Up to
300 antique tractors of many makes and models will be on display, along
with hundreds of gas engines - the small stationary engines that ran
many machines in early households and factories, garden tractors
galore, exhibits of horse drawn equipment, a large flea market, food
vendors - - and that’s only the beginning.
The John Deere Company is the feature this year – including tractors,
implements, lawn & garden tractors, and gas engines. Hot air
engines are another feature this year and the Midwest Regional Hot Air
Engine Summer Show will be held in the area of the Ohio Center.
Several hundred exhibitors share their hobby and their knowledge
throughout the show. Demonstrations daily include cutting logs at the
sawmill operation, threshing wheat, corn shredding, and all of the
activity at the gas engine area.
Friday night features the annual DCTPA truck and tractor pull and the
antiques pull Saturday morning at 10:00. Saturday afternoon at 2:00 is
the Kiddie Tractor Pull in the top of the Coliseum. Saturday at 4:00 is
the Pony Pull and at 6:00 the heavyweight horses compete, with both
events held in the Horse Show Arena. The Garden Tractor Pull has been
moved to Saturday at 6:00 PM in front of the Grandstand. There will be
a “make and take” quilting session in the Fine Arts Building on Friday
and Saturday afternoons, a church service on Sunday morning at 9:15 and
the annual Car Show and Cruise-in from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Sunday.
Admission is $5.00 per day or $10.00 for a membership pass, with kids
12 and under admitted free. Camping on the fairgrounds is available.
